JAMIE HEFLEY
Jamie Hefley is a medical illustrator with a passion for making complex scientific ideas accessible and engaging through visual storytelling. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Biological Pre-Medical Illustration from Iowa State University, graduating summa cum laude in 2023, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Medical and Biological Illustration at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Jamie grew up with two botanist and entomologist parents who fed her curiosity and taught her to see the extraordinary in even the smallest critters. She turned to art as a way to explore and understand the natural world, blending observation with creative expression. This lifelong interplay between science and art continues to shape her work. It fuels a mission to translate science into compelling visuals that educate, inspire, and foster a deeper connection to the world around and within us.
Her thesis project, ‘The Renin-Angiotensin System Across the Lifespan: A Visual Exploration of a Multi-Organ Hormonal Network in Aging and Disease,’ presents an opportunity to explore the impact of interactivity on teaching complex molecular pathways and easing the transition from medical education to clinical practice.
